1918, North Broadway Street Bridge

The North Broadway Bridge in 1918, two decades before the Los Angeles River channel was deepened and lined with concrete. On both sides of the river and also under the arches of the bridge there are railroad tracks. Elysian Park is seen in the background. The plot in the forground of the image would later be use for the Downey Recreation Center; as of 2010 a public pool is locater righ there along the railroad tracks.

1937, Traffic on Bridge

A section of the North Spring Street Bridge is seen agains the right edge of the image. The big white building on the other side of the river is at the location of present day Downey Rec. Center (2010).
