Photograph of panoramic view of Garvanza looking north from across the Arroyo Seco, ca.1906. A number of wheel tracks make their way through the cluster of trees in the foreground, which opens up on the district towards the center, where houses can be seen. Mountains and hilly terrain are visible in the background.
Photograph of the Pacific Electric Bridge across the Arroyo Seco, near the University of Southern California College of Fine Arts in Garvanza (later Highland Park), 1907. The college, which can be seen to the right of the railroad tracks headed across the bridge, was founded by William Lees Judson in 1901. There are two sets of train tracks leading up to and crossing the bridge, along with two rows of poles to support the overhead wires needed to run the electric trains. Despite the name of the river, its banks are lush with foliage, including several large trees. A simple ranch house can be seen on the left side of the picture, and the tracks intersect a street in the foreground.
Photograph of a view of Highland Park, looking northeast on Pasadena Avenue (formerly North Figueroa Street), ca.1908-1912. Pasadena Avenue curves from the right (foreground) and continues onward in a straight path into the distance. Many residential buildings and several commercial buildings form blocks in this developing community. Mountains are visible in the distance.
