Italian Hall 1907-08
Architect Julius Kraus designed this building for Marie Hammel. The upper floors served as a center for the Italian organizations of the city who used the hall for political meetings, banquets, weddings and theatrical (operatic) performances. On the lower floors several stores were located. Since the 1930’s, when Olvera Street was transformed into a Mexican marketplace, these stores have been occupied by tenets of Olvera Street.
